If You’re Not Using Email Marketing, You Should Be

So, you’re a face-to-face kinda business. You like to build a rapport with your customers while they are standing right in front of you. But maybe you’ve started thinking about if your business could benefit from a little email marketing shake-up, but have no idea where to start. Well, you’re dead right. You can get a ton of value (read: revenue) from building a customer email list and using it wisely.

But why?

Email is the most effective marketing platform in the world

Email became global in 1993, with origins in the 1970s, and gained traction with regular consumers in the mid 1990’s. So ponder this: 22 years on, email is still around. It’s probably easier to exterminate cockroaches who roamed with the dinosaurs than it is to get rid of email. Even social media hasn’t eliminated the simple need for an email address to login (yet).

Simply put, email has the highest ROI of any marketing channel around – beating paid search, social media, TV and radio. Obviously, this has a direct impact on you as a business owner – the more relevant people exposed to your products, the more people you’re going to get buying them.

Get with the times: your customers are using it

Even if you’re not using it, your customers are. And the easiest way to bridge the gap between you and them is to knuckle down and get yourself an email marketing strategy. It might seem like everyone and their uncle is on Facebook and Twitter these days. And you’re right – they are. But there’s a good chance more of your customers have email addresses than they do social media. Research shows there are more than 4 billion email accounts globally, while Facebook and Twitter each claim to have 1.35 billion and 270 million respectively.

You can control your email list

Email is free from the restraints that hold Facebook back – it’s an open medium that no one organisation controls. The rules on Facebook can change at any time – a good example of this is the push for Facebook paid advertising in order to reach consumers.
