Christmas SEO tips

4 Last-Minute Tips for Holiday SEO

If you’ve procrastinated with your SEO all year and your website needs a Christmas pick-me-up, all is not lost. While SEO is a long-term approach to digital marketing (read: it won’t work overnight), there are some quick fixes you can do to get great organic traffic before the holiday season really goes into overdrive.

Here’s how.

1. Ensure you have a Google My Business page

This is one you need to get done today – so clear your schedule. A Google My Business page is absolutely essential for brick-and-mortar businesses and is one of the most critical factors for Google recognising your business as an entity that it should pay attention to. Make sure you have a complete listing: that means your phone number, business address, hours, website, photos – the works.

2. Optimise page titles and meta descriptions

If you haven’t already done so, make time in this month to get cracking on your page titles and meta descriptions before December rolls around. These directly impact click-through rates to your website, so to inspire Christmas shoppers, ensure the text is clear, uses relevant keywords and includes a call-to-action.

3. Focus on the low-hanging fruit

Let’s face it – you’re not going to rank for short-tail keywords with less than 5 weeks until Santa makes an appearance. Forget one-word terms, and go for longer phrases that play to your brand’s niche to score a few wins with festive Googlers. You can devise a plan for total keyword domination come 2017.

4. Fix up unoptimised content

Tedious though it may be, avoiding Google’s naughty list means you need to go through your website and make a list of the pages that need optimising, and then following through. Review your rankings and your content, and then – page-by-page – make sure your site is properly optimised to your target keywords and follows best practice for SEO.
