Hot Searches – December 2013

This year hot search trends for December in Australia included the Big Bash Cricket and the tragic car crash of actor Paul Walker. Last year, Hot Searches – December 2012 there were similar topics searched including Christmas and the Boxing Day Sales as well as the ever popular Mega Lotto Draw.

Paul Walker

The tragic news of the death of Fast and Furious actor, Paul Walker over the thanksgiving holidays continued to remain top of Australian searches into December. Searches on updated news on Paul Walker and his daughter Meadow Walker were most prevalent with searches on the car crash and the Fast and Furious movies for which he played the lead role.

Cricket

Cricket continued to be popular into December with Australians winning the Ashes and the T20 Big Bash League beginning. Searches for the live cricket scores for the Big Bash Cricket in Perth and Adelaide were also popular.

Christmas

Top searches included sending Christmas messages to wish friends and family a Merry Christmas. Searches for opening hours were also high for shops on Christmas Eve, in particular, Westfield shopping centre, Woolworths and Coles.

Shopping

Continuing on from Christmas Eve searches for Kmart, Target, BigW and Coles trading hours were high with searches for Boxing Day Sales at Myer, David Jones, and JB Hi Fi the most popular.

Lotto

This year mid December had an Oz Lotto Draw with a jackpot of $70 Million with Australians going online to check out the winning lotto numbers and the lucky lotto winners. The $30 Million Mega Draw this year was drawn on 4 January and also caused searches to spike as people went online to try their luck a second time.
