July saw a wide range of search terms relating to issues and events appear in searches conducted in Australia.

Le Tour De France

This event, loved worldwide, took place in July. There was huge Australian interest in Aussie hopeful – and eventually winner – Cadel Evans. Many searches this month were made relating to Evans and the Tour. Searches continued after Cadel won event, the first time for an Australian.

Tax

As tax time rolled around again this year, many searches were made by Australians enquiring into their taxes or trying to find information. Increased search interest in E-tax related terms as well as terms relating to the ATO and tax related businesses were also recorded.

Rupert Murdoch

As this ex- Australian media mogul and his British newspaper “News of The World” underwent investigations, many of July’s searches were made by Australians keen to find out more news about Murdoch and his empire.

Harry Potter

July saw the release of the final instalment of the Harry Potter movie series not only in Australia but worldwide. The book and movie series are hugely successful in Australia leading to many searches relating to Harry Potter and its final film’s release in Australia during July.

Amy Winehouse

The English soul singer’s untimely death in late July lead to Australians searching for news articles, as well as links to her music and videos. Winehouse had previously been a commercial success in Australia and has recently seen posthumous chart success in Australia.
