No suprises that the capture/assassination of the world’s most wanted man topped our list for May 2011. Were you one of the millions that searched planking last month?

Here are the top 5 hot searches for May 2011 using data from Google Insights and Yahoo! Buzz.

Bin Laden

After his death on May 2, there was huge interest in the al-Qaeda leader. Varied searches including many variations and misspellings of his name made up the highest searched topic for the month.

Planking

After this online phenomenon gained huge media attention mid month, many searches were made for videos, photos and articles towards the end of the month

NRL

As the season continued and with the first game of State Of Origin occurring in the month there were many Rugby League related searched in May.

Masterchef

As the new season commenced in May there was huge interest in this nation-wide loved TV show. Many searches were made in the lead up to the launch with continued interest across the rest of the month.
