Hot Searches – May 2012

Internet Search history for May 2012 was dominated by TV shows, a major lottery prize and Rugby.

Some big changes from Hot searches – May 2011 which centred on the capture and assassination of Osama Bin Laden. A noticeable change in the TV centric top searches was that the ever popular TV series Masterchef, despite high search volumes, did not make the top 5 list this month.

Lara Bingle

Lara Bingle’s new reality show “Being Lara Bingle” has been popular in searches this month. Lara Bingle has also been highly searched for in the news for the nude on the balcony photo scandal after pictures were taken of the Sydney model seen naked from her balcony. Many suggest that this is good timing for the lead up to “Being Lara Bingle” launching on June 12th, now at prime time due to interest in the show.

Eurovision 2012

Eurovision 2012 aired on SBS at the end of May held in Azerbaijan with Australians searching for the Eurovision results and winners. There was also interest in the babushka Russian singing group who came second and Sweden who won the Eurovision this year, with those who missed the Eurovision final watching on Youtube.

State of Origin 2012

The first game of the State of Origin 2012 started on Channel 9 on 23rd May with Australians searching for their favourite team of the NSW blues or Queensland team. NRL also continues to be a high search term for the next round, line-ups and results.

Oz Lotto

With a $70 million lotto jackpot prize in the Oz Lotto draw on 8th May there was no surprise that this was a popular topic. Searches for lotto number results following the Oz Lotto draw were also high as we all hoped we had won!

Diablo 3

This month the fastest selling PC game, Diablo 3, was released and gamers have been searching for build guides and Diablo server status. There have been server issues since the Diablo 3 game was released and users have been searching for server status updates after receiving error messages when servers struggled to cope with demand.
