The death of desktop?

The death of desktop?

Data from over 1.8 billion email campaigns sent in 2013 has been analysed and the results* are in.

It’s official. Mobile is now the most popular environment for a subscriber’s first interaction with your email. 41% of opens now happen on mobile devices, so if you are sending emails to customers, you need to make sure your campaigns are optimised for mobile.

The trend for reading email on mobile is great news for those wanting to reach their audience anytime, anywhere. But it comes at a slight cost.

The results of this study indicate that readers are less likely to click from their mobile device. The truth is that most clicks happen when the reader engages with your message for the first time and only 78% of clicks on mobile devices happen on the first open.

But not so fast. If your mobile reader reopens your message from another device, then, hey presto, the clicks come back! The study found that someone who first read your message from mobile and then opens your message a second time, from another device like their computer, is 65% more likely to click.

The challenge now, is to make sure those email messages you’re sending are not only beautiful on the desktop but look just as splendid when displayed on a small screen device. And that those being read on the go are engaging enough to get a second read later…
