Search History – February 2012

February began with the sad news of Whitney Houston’s death and was a highly searched topic throughout the month. Searches similar to last year also appeared with the NRL and AFL footy season starting and Mathletics to keep the kids occupied.

Last year’s Hot Searches – February 2011 most searched terms were the Christchurch Earthquake natural disaster and Cyclone Yasi in Queensland; a huge difference from this year with topics focusing on TV shows and Valentine’s Day.

Whitney Houston

The death of Whitney Houston on 11th February shocked the world with many searching online for news about her death and the funeral where celebrities made tributes to her life and work as a singer, actress and producer. Searches continued to be high throughout the month on news updates about how Whitney Houston died and about the funeral. It was the top search term in February for Australia and worldwide.

My Kitchen Rules & Revenge

Popular TV shows being searched this month are on channel 7 shows My Kitchen Rules and Revenge as well as the Biggest Loser on Channel Ten. MKR contestants Peter and Gary, have been a common search term with those watching wanting to find out more online and comment about the episodes outspoken pair. Searches to watch Revenge episodes online and download season 1 have also been high.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Searches in the lead up to February 14th were all about the message of love with Australians going online to wish their loved one a Happy Valentines Day. Searches for funny valentines, Valentines Day cards and loving messages, poems and quotes were popular.

NRL/AFL

As the footy season started fans of AFL and NRL went online to set up fantasy NRL and AFL dream teams, check out the footy tipping and watch games live. Searches were high on the AFL NAB Cup, scores and NRL trials. The Herald Sun Newspaper Supercoach was also searched with its free fantasy competition.

Mathletics and Study Ladder

Mathletics was a popular search throughout February with the online site, mathletics.com.au, offering cool math games to get kids interested in maths and play against others online. Searches were high for how to sign in to Mathletics login as well as games including snail bob. Study Ladder was also a highly searched term with study games aimed at Primary and Junior High Students.
