Hot Searches – July 2012

Internet Search history for July 2012 centred around Sport – with Wimbledon and Tour de France events and the Olympics beginning all in July. The London Olympics have now begun with the opening ceremony being a hot topic both in Australia and worldwide.

In comparison to last year, searches were on the Rupert Murdoch investigation and the death of Amy Winehouse. Hot Searches – July 2011 did see similar searches to this year with the month of Tax return and the Tour de France.

The Shire

The new reality TV show, The Shire, aired on channel ten this month with controversial opinions on the show based in Cronulla. The Shire cast have also been popular with searches on Beckaa in particular as well as episodes and searches online for The Shire on Facebook, which currently has over 10,000 likes – and quite a few more more dislikes!

eTax

It’s the time of year again to lodge a tax return and many Australians have been searching online for the ATO and to download the 2012 E-tax online. Searches have also been high on E-tax for Mac to find out if you can lodge a tax return on a Mac computer. E-tax for Mac will not be available until next year.

The Dark Knight Rises

The release at the cinema of the Dark Night Rises has led to an increase in related search terms on reviews and IMDb to watch trailers and view ratings on the film.
Searches on characters from the Dark Knight including Batman, Robin and actor Tom Hardy who plays the new villain Bane have also been high.

London Olympics 2012

The London Olympics began on the 27th July with the Olympic games opening ceremony being a hot search term this month. Searches on Australia in the Olympic games as well as the Olympics on channel 9 have been popular. The London Olympics Schedule has also been highly searched along with London time searches to watch the Olympics live.

Le Tour de France

As with last year, searches were centred around 2011 Tour de France champion, Cadel Evans who finished this year in 80th place. UK cyclist, Bradley Wiggins, won the Tour de France 2012 and is now expected to go on to perform well in the London Olympics. Cadel Evans recently pulled out of the time trial for the Olympics due to fatigue.
