Hot Internet Searches – June 2011

Autralian web searches continue to evolve as the months pass. Despite similar thems to May 2011 Hot Searches – News/Current Affairs and sporting events – we have seen 5 new topics make up June 2011’s Hot Searches.

Here are the top 5 hot searches for June 2011 using data from Google Insights and Yahoo! Buzz.

Volcanic Ash Cloud

This environmental disaster had a major impact on Australian flights, thus becoming the hot topic for June as many searches were made regarding flights, airports and general information about its impact.

Wimbledon

The UK’s international sporting event occurred in late June with major interest from Australians in the lead up to the event as well as interest in schedules, results, players and other information about the competition.

Julia Gillard

Our Prime Minister entered the hot searches for June as it was her one year anniversary of being the PM. Having increased media exposure during June also helped push her into the top searches.

AFL

This nation-wide loved sport re entered into the top 5 as the season pushed on towards its Finals with interest into teams, players, results and standings. Go the Swannies!

Lunar Eclipse

This rare occurrence during mid-June drove interest with searches relating to viewing points, timings and other information leading up to the Eclipse, and interest in photos and videos of the event. This will have been helped along by one of the best Google Doodles we have seen.
