Hot Searches – March 2013

The hot topics Australians were searching for in March 2013 centred around the Easter holiday celebrations, sport and TV.

In comparison to last year, March 2012 – Hot Searches, sport was again popular with Australians as was the Kony 2012 campaign which caught everyone’s attention. March 2013 also marks 2 years on from the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami disaster in March 2011.

Easter and Daylight Savings

Easter fell at the end of March this year with The Royal Easter Show being the most searched topic over the month. Australians went online for information on the Sydney Easter Show, to view show bags and buy Easter Show tickets. Online banking sites were also highly searched over the Easter holidays.
Daylight Savings was also a highly searched term in NSW to find out what time the clocks go back. Daylight Savings begins Sunday 7 April 2013 – at 3am the clocks go back 1 hour. That means an hour of extra sleep – hurrah!

Melbourne F1

The Australian F1 2013 began in mid-March with fans of formula 1 car racing going online to find out the latest F1 news, and watch the F1 grand prix live from Melbourne.

NRL 2013

NRL continues to be high on Australian top searches with fans going online to enter the competition and create Supercoach fantasy teams, watch NRL live and find out the tipping, scores and results.

Games of Thrones and The Walking Dead

American TV Series, The Walking Dead and Games of Thrones broke their ratings records at the end of March. Games of Thrones fantasy TV series airs on HBO in America and Foxtel in Australia with its 3rd series being the most downloaded on torrent sites. Australians have been searching online for downloads and imdb to read reviews and cast biographies including the popular Games of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke.

The Block

The Block 2013, continues to be popular into March as the All Stars sold their houses at auction. The most searched contestants included Mark as he left the Block at the beginning of the month and Phil & Amity who went on to win the Block All Stars taking home $295,000 in the live auction and $100,000 prize money.
