Hot Searches – May 2013

May 2013 Hot Searches included Sydney’s Vivid Festival and the news of Angelina Jolie taking preventative measures for genetic Breast Cancer. Mother’s Day was another popular search term along with TV series Arrow, The Block and The Biggest Loser.

As with last year, in May 2012 – Hot Searches, the Eurovision was a popular search term with Denmark winning this year.

Eurovision 2013

Searches on the Eurovision 2013 spiked Mid-May as the worldwide TV show aired in Australia on SBS. Austrlians searched for dates and in particular for the Eurovision results and final winner. Emmelie de Forest of Denmark was the Eurovision song contest winner of 2013 with Romania also being highly searched due to the contestant, Cezar, and his over the top performance.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie announced in May that she had undergone a preventative double mastectomy in May to give her a lower risk of developing breast cancer. Searches online increased as the news broke and Australians went online to search for Angelina Jolie’s mastectomy as well as movies and Brad Pitt.

Vivid Festival 2013

Vivid Festival is held annually in Sydney and lights up the Harbour and surrounding buildings with light shows and lasers. Towards the end of May, searches online have increased for Vivid Festival dates and lights in Sydney, particularly from Australians in NSW.

Happy Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day in Australia falls in May and searches for poems, cards and quotes as well as Mothers Day gifts and ideas were highly searched. The Mothers Day Classic was also a popular search term to find out when the fun run and walk was on to celebrate Mothers Day and raise money for Breast Cancer Research.

Arrow, The Block and The Biggest Loser

Popular TV series in the month of May have switched from the Games of Thrones to Arrow with seasons 1 and 2 being searched the most and to watch Arrow online. The Block 2013 episodes have also been highly searched along with The Biggest Loser trainer Michelle Bridges due to her 12 Week Body Transformation program as well as the rumours of an affair with fellow trainer Commando.
