Hot Searches – October 2013

October saw the majority of Australian searches focused on the NSW fires and news of the Rural Fire Service to keep updated with the widespread fires and those blazes now under control. Searches towards the end of the month were on new music tour dates in Australia for singers Katy Perry and Eminem. In comparison to last year, October 2012 – Hot Searches centred on cyber bullying, Hurricane Sandy in New York and the release of the Apple iPad Mini.

NSW Fires & RFS

This year bush fires started early with hot weather and strong winds. People went online to find out information from the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website as well as maps, news and updates on the NSW fires.

Halloween

Halloween falls on the 31 Oct and searches increased towards the end of the month particularly on Halloween costumes and Halloween ideas for kids.

NBA

Australian fans of the National Basketball Association (NBA) went online to check on the NBA scores and fantasy league on American news site ESPN. Searches were also high on NBA League Pass a subscription service where you can watch exclusive NBA live game coverage streamed to your device.

Eminem

Eminem tour Australia in Feb 2014 with tickets becoming available in October. This led to a rise in searches for Eminem on Ticketek for tickets on his new Rapture Tour. Rap God lyrics were also a popular search term as Eminem proclaims himself King of Rap in his new song.

Katy Perry

Searches spiked on Katy Perry in October as she arrived in Australia appearing on Channel 7 for an interview and on Sunrise singing her new song – Unconditionally. Katy Perry came to Australia to promote her concert tour and new album, Prism, with searches on the album rising and news that the artwork on the Prism album contains plant material and may be a biohazard to Australia.
